CHAPTER 19

TORDAN

She no more than says this to me that she is jerked off my chest. My arms reach for her only to grasp air. I hear her grunt when she hits the floor hard, she fights back weakly as she holds her arm close to her body which is now hanging at an odd angle. The skin on her knee has split open and her blood is running onto the floor as she is pulled toward the other table. She kicks out at ENAC as his holographic form surrounds her. I will never forget the sound she makes when he snaps the leg that she just kicked him with.

I have no idea what comes over me, but between the smell of her blood and ENAC laughing as she cries out in pain, my vision turns red. I yell out for Hugo in my head and tell him to ‘head to the lab if you want your freedom.’ I'm tired of playing the nice guy here and ENAC has hurt her for the last time.

I reach across my waist and rip off the strap that is holding my chest down. I flex the muscles in my legs and the lower clamps burst apart. Arms start coming at me out of the ceiling and I rip them out of their sockets. I'm fighting multiple opponents at once and when I hear Luna’s whimpers in my head. Her pain only fuels my rage further.

I turn only to see ENAC holding her down on the table, forcing her legs apart so he can confirm the mating. AMI appears in front of me. “Tordan, calm yourself immediately, he will terminate her if you don’t.”

I scream at her, “AMI…I’m done being your experiment, if you want to help us and all the others,… then find a way for me to stop him. If your programming cares about that female half as much as mine does, this has to end here and now, …one way or another.”

My cybernetic arm grabs the base of the bed I had been held on and rips it from the floor. I throw it into the holographic image protruding through the wall, and it disrupts ENAC enough that I can pull Luna away from him and into my grasp.

She goes stiff in my arms for a second, right before she passes out from the pain. I can feel her life force fading as she becomes completely unresponsive in my arms. The only option I have to save her now is to get us out of here and quickly. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion as my mind tries to form a plan of escape. I see Hugo on the other side of the barred doorway, his hands burnt from where he had been trying to open the door. I can hear AMI arguing with ENAC in the background and that’s all the distraction I need.

I gently put Luna over my shoulder, then grab the bars blocking our way with my cybernetic arm and shove up on them with everything I have.
